Today was Thursday, which meant that it was gymnastic day for Lindsay which she loves! She has been going to gymnastics for almost a year now and has really gotten the hang of it! Last week she accomplished the spin around the bar and man oh man was she proud of herself! After she did it she saw me through the window and gave me the biggest smile and I just knew she was proud of herself. After her class today her teacher pulled me aside and asked if I had thought about putting her in the 4 year old class and I said I hadn’t because I just assumed the teacher would tell me when she was ready. She said that she thought Lindsay would do better in the 4-5 year old class because her skills are awesome! 4-5 year olds!! The funny part was she said, “She’s 4, right?” Um, not so much. I still get a kick out of hearing people think Lindsay is older than she is. Anyway, so we’re saying goodbye to the Funny Bug class and starting the Giggle Worms in a few weeks. She’s pretty excited! I’m so proud of her! I’m so happy we found something she liked that she looks forward to going to.

You’re probably getting tired of all these posts about swimming but we’ve just been doing a lot of that lately! We had a fun day yesterday with swimming and playing in the back yard. It was so hot so we spent a good portion of it in the shade on the patio. The kids played with the sand/water table and then afterwards we went swimming. The slide that goes with their pool has a hole in it and so we put their big green slide in the pool instead and WOW! they went fast!! They had a blast!

They came back on Monday and finished our fence and put one of two gates up. They’ll come back Saturday to put the other gate up. It all looks really nice! Here’s a few pictures:

For those of you who care, this is how they did the fence around our back neighbors retaining wall. It turned out really nice.

Hopefully, by the end of the summer we’ll have our yard all the way done!

Memories

I got this from my friend Emily’s blog and thought it would be fun! I hope you will play along. Here are the directions:
1. Add a comment on my blog and leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn’t matter if you knew me a little or a lot just do anything you remember!
2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you.
It’s actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I’ll assume you’re playing the game and I’ll come to your blog and leave one about you. If you don’t want to play on your blog, or if you don’t have a blog, I’ll leave my memory of you in my comments.

I never thought I would have a child who would be overly attached to something. Logan has an unnatural love for his baseball blankie and most of the time he calls it ‘mama.’ He loves to chew on it and I can’t understand that because I hate the way fabric feels on my teeth. Shudder. So, anyway, let’s recap a little.

Christmas 2007: The obsession begins.

Never did I think that making him that blanket for Christmas would cause him to have such a strong bond with it.

February 2008: Can’t sleep without it.

May 2008: Can’t go anywhere without it. This is him at Lindsay’s gymnastics recital.

June 2008: We even had to bring it to the pool with us in Cancun, just in case.

It really just makes me giggle when I think about all the places I have to bring his blankie with us. It really has become his second half for now. He is so sweet with it and cuddles and hugs it all day long. Getting rid of the binkie was no problem, but I dread the day when we need to move on from the blankie. We love you so much Logan, blankie and all!

I did! We got our concrete poured today for our patio and our sidewalk. We actually had no idea they were coming because the guy never did return any of Jeff’s phone calls. So, when 4 trucks pulled up to my house at 9am this morning, that’s who I figured it was. And they got right to work! Jeff was on his way back from girl’s camp and so I was really nervous to have these guys here with me and the kids here by ourselves. I once again realized how spoiled I am to have Jeff work from home because I’m not alone during the day very often. There was a moment when I had to go out there and tell them they had set it up wrong and told them how we wanted it, only to find out I told them wrong. So, I was really glad when I called Jeffy and he was just down the street. He got home just in time to show them exactly what we wanted before the cement truck showed up. Logan was in love with the two big cement trucks and kept pointing out the window and saying ‘truck!’ The kids loved watching the guys work and they got it all done by about 2 o’clock. And it looks great! We’re excited.

The sidewalk on the left of the house goes all the way to the back of the house and connects to the patio.

The sidewalk connecting to the patio.

Our patio. It’s 10X20 and it seems like it will be a really good size.

While Logan takes his nap in the afternoon I try to do fun things with Lindsay, and in a perfect world that would happen everyday, but it’s not a perfect world so I do it whenever I remember or think of something to do. Anyway, yesterday we made animals out of an egg carton. I have to admit, it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. Egg cartons aren’t very even so when you cut them there are holes to deal with but we made it work. I didn’t have any pipe cleaners to make legs or antennas but again we made it work with what he had. Here are our lovely creations:

Lindsay’s caterpillar

My bird

Lindsay’s bird. She used a yellow and a blue marker to color it because she wanted it to be green. So smart!

Lindsay’s lion

Aren’t they cute?

We got our posts for our fence installed today! We have wanted our fence for awhile now but never thought we’d get it so soon, but we came across a deal we could not pass up so we did it! We did it at the same time as two of our friends so that we could get even a better deal so they got their posts as well today. I am so excited to look out my window and only see my yard and not weeds (sorry neighbors!!) They have to let the fence posts settle for a few days and hopefully we can get the concrete guy to get out here either tomorrow or Friday so they can come and finish the fence on Saturday or Monday. It’s all coming together so nicely and we couldn’t be happier! I have to admit that I will miss Hannah begging Niki to come out and play because she can see us on the swing set. Niki probably isn’t so sad… :)

On the right side of the house the fence will start at the back of the house.

A view from one corner.

The fence will come all the way up to the front of the house on the left so that we can store things there if we need to.

Have you ever been standing next to someone and all of a sudden they sneeze ALL over you? Enter Logan. Today during Sunday School, Logan was sitting sideways on my lap eating his Chocolate Chip Teddy Grahams (YUM!) and being really good actually. Brother Covert was sitting next to us and he had a piece of paper that he was writing things that the teacher had asked us to think about and write down. Anyway, Logan has been stuffy the past two days and out of nowhere he sneezed and I kid you not, cookie crumbs and snot went all over Brother Covert’s pants and his piece of paper. (I was sort of embarrassed but also like “Wow kid! Nice shot!”) I reached over and tried to wipe the stuff off of his paper but I didn’t dare touch his pants. I apologized for what happened and luckily their little girl is going through a ‘fake sneezing’ phase so he said, “Don’t worry. I’m totally used to it.” Really? You’re used to other people’s kids sneezing crap all over you? What a nice guy. Just had to share.

Our house had 5 living creatures in it for most of the day yesterday instead of 4. When the kids and I were outside we found a caterpillar on our driveway and Lindsay was sold! She loved watching him move and get “smaller and bigger” and after awhile she asked if she could hold it. So, I got some grass to pick him up with and after holding him for a minute she asked if she could keep it. I thought to myself, “This could either be really awesome or totally disastrous” but decided that keeping it would be fine. So we went inside and showed daddy what we found and then went upstairs and rinsed out a jam jar, poked some hoes in the top, found some grass, leaves and a stick and put Mr. Caterpillar in the jar and closed the lid. She sat on the floor and just watched him crawl around for a little while but then all of a sudden it was lunch time and she was done. We went on our date and came home later than afternoon and looked in the jar and thought maybe he was dead because he wasn’t moving. We had come to terms with our poor little Caterpillars death, but then Lindsay said, “Maybe if we take him outside, he’ll wake up.” Jeff thought she was just in denial but it turns out she was right! They shook him out and away he crawled. Lindsay was so happy and was really okay with letting him go. It would have been neat if we could have watched him in his chrysalis and become a butterfly, but at the same time I’m relieved to not have to constantly feed him and take him everywhere. It was really fun to see the kids reaction to the caterpillar. Lindsay loves bugs but even Logan loved touching him and watching him. Gotta love the bugs!
