Well, technically, New York will never be HERE in Utah, but in a little over two days, WE will be in New York!

I’ve never been to Yankee Stadium, and ever since they announced that they were tearing it down after this season, I’ve been hoping to get to a game there this summer. We were originally going to be attending a wedding in New York this past June, but that fell through, so we had to come up with other plans. I’ve always been planning on it, but I was getting worried that it would be one of those things you plan on doing until it’s too late to actually do it.

But then I was talking to my cousin Nathan on the phone a couple months ago, and he mentioned that he and his wife were thinking about heading out to New York to catch a Yankee game the weekend of his wife’s birthday. I said that we were thinking about going sometime too, and we decided to plan it together. So this Thursday, they will fly from LAX and we will fly from Salt Lake, and we’ll meet up in New York for a quick little trip. (We had some initial concerns about flying to New York on September 11, but we got over it.) We’ll do some sightseeing on Friday (Empire State Building, Times Square, Central Park, etc.), then hit the Yankees/Rays game that night. On Saturday, we’ll do the Statue of Liberty and maybe some other stuff, then we’ll split up, because Bethy and I are going to see Wicked on Broadway (FedEx is delivering our tickets tomorrow morning!). Then we’ll get up very early Sunday morning and fly home.

It will be a quick, exhausting trip, but I’m hoping there will be some first-class seats available so we can upgrade at the airport, and then maybe we can get some sleep (at least on the way home). Our wonderful friend Emily is watching the kids for us (because she’s wonderful), and it’s going to be a great way to celebrate our fifth anniversary a few weeks late.
