Tonight was a night Lindsay has been looking forward to for about a week. Last week when I was down and out with pneumonia, my kids were shipped around from one wonderful friend to another and then when Jeff was off work they’d come home and be with him for a couple hours and then it would be time for bed. Needless to say, I didn’t see much of my babies for about 3 days. Horrible. I missed them terribly. On Friday night, I had enough energy to help Jeffy put the kids to bed and after reading Lindsay a book and giving lots of kisses (on the cheeks, of course) she just started crying and said, “But mommy, I just love you so much!” I told her I loved her too and then I asked her what was wrong and she mumbled something about her wanting me to stay with her for a little while, and I totally would have, but mind you, I could hardly sit there next to her bed. So, I told her I missed her too and I promised her that when I was all better, we’d have a fun slumber party and stay up late and eat candy. Just the two of us. Tears stopped. She was so excited! So, at least once a day since then she’s asked me if our slumber party was that night and it was always no, until today. While she was at preschool, I went to the store and got candy and sucker molds, candy melts, a new coloring book and a new movie. She was so excited she could hardly wait, but it was only noon and the poor thing had to wait 7 more hours to party! She was a trooper! So, at 7pm, we put Logan to bed and got to slumbering! We made the candy/suckers first and man was that easy!! I remember making them with my mom when I was a kid and it seemed to take longer then, but it only took maybe 20 minutes, start to finish, which was probably just the right amount of time for her.
She liked watching the chocolate melt and pouring the chocolate into the molds, which she was really good and careful at!
Then while we waited for the candy to harden in the fridge, we colored on her Tinkerbell coloring book that I got her specially for tonight. I really enjoyed coloring with her and just listening to her talk, and tell “stories” (they don’t really make sense yet) and just looking at her. She’s so beautiful!
Then once the candies and suckers were done, we grabbed a couple each, cuddled up and watched a Blue’s Clue’s movie.
She’s really into Blue’s Clue’s these days and watches it every morning. Thank goodness for TiVo!! She fell asleep about 10pm (wow!) and I know she had a good time. She didn’t want it to end and kept asking if we could color more or watch the movie again, but the responsible parent in me told her she’s been up since 7am, no nap and you have preschool tomorrow…time for bed. I had so much fun I think we’ll do this at least once a month. I love you Linds!

2What a sweet thing! I am so happy that my grandchildren have such wonderful mothers!
I’d have slumber party with my girls, too, if they’d show up.

3We were excited to get Jeff’s email about your blog, can’t wait to sit down and read about your cute family! So sorry to hear you’ve been so sick, there’s nothing worse than being sick and having kids that you can’t take care of the way you want to. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and hope you guys are doing great.
